A Rowley man was arrested Friday after law enforcement officers say he intentionally hit his neighbor with his car.
Raymond Gienau, 70, is charged in with one count of attempted murder. According to a criminal complaint, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 500 block of Oak Street in Rowley Friday at about noon, after Wayne Bagby, 65, had been hit by a car.
Bagby told sheriff’s deputies that he’d been outside doing yard work that morning and Gienau, his next door neighbor, had been yelling at him from the property line, the complain states. Gienau got into his vehicle in his driveway and revved the engine on and off for about 20 minutes, while continuing to yell at Bagby, before pulling into the street and accelerating and breaking hard multiple times, leaving marks on the road.
He then drove the car off the road into Bagby’s yard and hit Bagby, who bounced off the hood and landed on the ground, before crashing into Bagby’s garage, according to the complaint.
Gienau got out of the car and told Bagby he hoped he died from the crash, the complaint states. Bagby got up and went to a different neighbor’s house across the street, and Gienau walked back to his own house.
The complaint states that in an interview with law enforcement, Gienau admitted to hitting Bagby with his car and saying he hoped Bagby would die. He told investigators that he got angry because he saw Bagby talking with someone else earlier and he believed they were discussing Gienau and his wife.
“Gienau advised law enforcement that he has a severe temper and he should not be messed with. Gienau advised law enforcement that he was aware what he had done and was just fed up to the point he did not care anymore,” the complaint states.
The complaint does not give additional details about Bagby’s condition after the crash.
Gienau had his initial appearance in court on Saturday and is being held in the Buchanan County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
