Saturday Oct. 18 was a beautiful sunny, fall day when I gathered with 5,000 of my closest friends on Eighth Avenue in Cedar Rapids to exercise my right as an American Citizen. We were peaceful, joyously displaying our patriotism. We were young, old, veterans, children, gay and straight. We stood, we sat, we wheeled. We were there to speak up for friends and neighbors who are in danger of losing their voting rights, their health care and their physical rights. I enjoyed seeing photos of large cities around the country and photos of towns around Eastern Iowa. I am disappointed and confused as to why The Gazette chose to not see this local event as worthy as that of Boston or New York.
