I’ve called the Iowa City area home for over 30 years. My husband, Rami, and I have lived in Coralville for the past two decades, where we raised two children who graduated from West High and now attend the University of Iowa. This community has given much to our family, and I am committed to giving back through my service on the ICCSD Board of Directors.
Since 1995, I’ve worked as a physician assistant, with most of my career focused in oncology and ENT. I currently practice at the Iowa City VAMC, where I also serve as Chief Healthcare Ethics Consultant. My work in health care has shaped my ability to listen closely, think critically, and act ethically — values I bring to every decision I make on the school board.
My engagement in public education began long before joining the board. I chaired the district’s Equity Advisory Committee and have worked as a trained restorative justice facilitator. I’ve also mentored a Liberty High School student through Big Brothers Big Sisters, and I’m deeply committed to supporting inclusive, student-centered environments.
During my four years on the ICCSD Board, I’ve prioritized transparency, fiscal responsibility, academic excellence, and safe, inclusive schools. I championed upgrades to fine arts facilities at all three comprehensive high schools, recognizing the vital role the arts play in student engagement and achievement. I also led the effort to establish a paraeducator pay differential, ensuring that staff working with our highest-need students are recognized and fairly compensated for their essential contributions.
When proposed changes put accelerated math and science in middle schools at risk, I worked to ensure these academic opportunities remained available for students. I also pushed to increase public oversight by requiring larger capital projects to be posted on the board agenda, promoting transparency and accountability in district spending.
I’m running for re-election to keep our district strong — so that ICCSD remains the best choice for families in our community. With the expansion of school vouchers and growing pressure on public education, we need steady, experienced leadership more than ever.
I am focused on ensuring safe, supportive classrooms, improving academic achievement, and investing in the educators who make that success possible. I will continue working toward long-term planning that supports enrollment growth and builds trust through open communication.
Public schools are the heart of our community. I’m running to protect and strengthen that foundation for every student and future generations.
