George Raymond Miller was born March 15, 1934, in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Leslie and Edna (Wyant) Miller. He graduated from Conroy Consolidated school in 1951. In 1954, he entered the US Army and served until 1961. On October 17, 1959, George was united in marriage to Elizabeth Ann Hutton in Sigourney, Iowa. After their marriage, they lived in Cedar Rapids and Marengo, while George worked as a supervisor for the Iowa DOT. He retired in 1994 and they moved to Texas, where they spent the next 27 years, before returning to Williamsburg in 2023. George was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 and a former member of the Williamsburg Lions Club. He enjoyed golfing, watching football especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers. George died on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at his home in Williamsburg, at the age of 91 years.
He is survived by a sister-in-law Jennie Morgan of Sigourney and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; wife in 2024; brothers Ralph, Harold, Herbert, Lester and Marvin Miller; sisters May, Katherine, Mary and Elizabeth.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time. A memorial fund has been established for the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 for college scholarship or the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.
