It is a distinct honor to be elected to serve on your community’s Board of Education. The responsibility is simple in principle — do what’s best for students — but complex in execution. Balancing finances, recruiting and retaining talented staff, encouraging bold imagination, fostering safe environments, and so much more are part of the charge.
During my time on the West Liberty Board of Education, I have had the privilege of supporting Mr. Dan Stevenson both as a teacher and as a union negotiator with whom I’ve worked across the table.
Dan is consistently levelheaded, courteous, and optimistic. In four years of negotiations, both the West Liberty Community School District and the West Liberty Education Association left the table satisfied and energized for the year ahead. Dan’s strong understanding of school finance allows him to approach negotiations with logic and reason, creating professional, productive, and positive outcomes for all involved.
I was elated to see Dan running for the Iowa City Board of Education. He would be a tremendous asset to any board, but especially one where he brings the valuable perspective of a classroom teacher. Too often, teachers feel unheard or underrepresented at the board level. Dan bridges that gap and ensures their voices are present in the decision-making process.
I strongly encourage you to support Dan Stevenson for the Iowa City Community School District Board of Education.
