These two Iowa musicians can now say, “Momma We Made It.”
Cedar Rapids-based rapper Tone Da Boss and Des Moines-based singer Entre Luche teamed up to release the single “Momma We Made It” earlier this year. Now, the song has earned Grammy consideration in three categories: Song of the Year, Best Rap Song and Record of the Year.
“Over 30 million songs are released worldwide every year. Fewer than 20,000 make it through Grammy eligibility screening to be considered, which places us in the top 0.07 percent of artists globally,” Antonio Chalmers, aka Tone Da Boss, said. “For Iowa hip hop, this is history.”
The song was recorded locally at The Sound Box Recording Studio, 1044 Mt. Vernon Rd., and produced by Atlanta-based Off Ki Productions.
Daniel Luckett, aka Entre Luche, is familiar with the Grammy process, as his song “On Me” earned Grammy consideration for R&B Song of the Year in 2024. Luckett is also a Grammy Voting Member.
Luckett told The Gazette that he started writing the song for a football camp. Eventually, by teaming up with Chalmers, the song was completed and released.
Chalmers, who has spent years working to spotlight talent in the Hawkeye state through founding the Iowa Music Awards, said the song is a perfect soundtrack to the milestone in his and Luckett’s careers.
“We are both men that were raised by single mothers. Society looks at us as we aren’t supposed to win, and the one person we both strive to make proud the most is our mothers,” Chalmers said. “The day we can look at them and say ‘Momma, we made it’ is bigger than any win, bigger than anything material we could buy.
“Against all odds, we are finally here, and with this Grammy consideration, we feel like this is good enough to say it to our moms. Our names are now apart of history on the ballot next to the Snoop Doggs, Taylors Swifts and Lil Wayne.”
Chalmers’ anthems “Give Me My Ring” and “Victory Lap” have been used by both the NBA and NFL, and his single “Showtime” has been featured in promotions for SummerSlam, WWE’s largest annual event.
“At this point, we put the music out and manifest the magic,” Chalmers said. “We write with pure and positive intentions, and if something is meant to happen, we let it happen. I haven’t written a song and said, ‘Oh, this is for the Grammy’s or this is the song that’s going to win the big win.’ Both me and Entre just genuinely love music, love the art.”
Grammy nominations will be announced Nov. 7, 2025. The 68th Grammy Awards will be held Feb. 1, 2026.
