Edward Bradley passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, from 11:00 AM until the start of the memorial service at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Edward J. Bradley was born in Creston, Iowa, on May 18, 1935, to Edward J. and Elizabeth (Walsh) Bradley. He graduated from Creston High School in 1953 and started working at Iowa Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids in 1955. Edward went into the army in 1958, served in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1960. He then went back to work at Iowa manufacturing and retired from there, after 42 years, in 1998.
He was married to Janet Rathjen in Marengo, Iowa, on September 16, 1961. Together they had two sons, Daniel and David.
Ed and Janet liked to travel and get together with friends for an evening of playing aggravation. He enjoyed golfing with “the boys,” and doing his favorite tricks with grandkids, nieces and nephews. His love of “tinkering” went beyond his career as an electrician; he was the resident “fix-it” man at home, extending the life of many household appliances, and completing many woodworking projects.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Janet Bradley; his son, David (Debbie) Bradley of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Katie and Michael Bradley, also of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother-in-law, Charles (Marion) Rathjen; sister-in-law, Joyce (Frank) Fleischacker; his nieces and nephews, many friends and extended relatives.
He is preceded in death by his son, Daniel, who died in 2023; his parents; his father- and mother-in-law, Kenneth and Harriet Rathjen; siblings, Daryl (Evelyn) Bradley, Dorothy (Mike) Meyers; and many family members and friends.
Ed was placed in The Gardens Care Center in January of 2025, and we thank them for their care and kindness. We also thank Moments Hospice for their care these past couple of months.
