Barbara Faber
Clarence
Barbara Faber was born on July 7, 1960, to Larry and Sharon Easler in Kingsville, Texas. When she was two years old, she was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Spina bifida. She spent her early childhood years at University of Iowa hospital school and later became a part of Systems Unlimited. She attended Northwest Junior High and graduated from West High in 1980. She also attended DMACC in Des Moines, Iowa for a yearlong clerical course. She worked at Wells Fargo (Norwest Bank) in Des Moines in customer service for many years.
Barb married Mike Faber in July 1998. She got her driver’s license and a fully equipped van, and the couple enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado to see Mike’s family and the State Fair! Mike had health issues that prevented him from driving, but they cared for each other and lived a happy and adventurous life until Mike’s death in November 2013.
Barb was active and productive. She attended Camp Sunnyside in Des Moines for many years. She was named Miss Wheelchair Iowa and competed in the Nationals as well. She served on many local and state committees advocating for the handicapped. With everything she did, she made lifelong friends!
Her happy place was Disney World in Orlando – she made six trips there! She enjoyed collecting Disney memorabilia and her apartment could have been a Disney gift shop. On her last trip with her friend and caregiver Michelle, she passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 12, 2025. Many thanks to Michelle, to the Disney hotel and to the Orlando Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in handling arrangements. Also, a big thank-you to Aunt Mary for her assistance on the home front and to the staff from Systems Unlimited.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Mike, her father Larry and many other relatives and friends.
Surviving are her mother Sharon, brother Bradley of Iowa City and twin brother Brett (Judy) of Hudson, Wisconsin, her nieces Jennifer Easler (Caleb and great-niece Clara), Kristin Miller (Dan) and Rebecca Easler.
Services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 2202 Forest Dr SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Tuesday, October 7 at 10:00 am with lunch to follow. Visitation begins at 9:00 am. Arrangements are with Chapman Funeral Home of Clarence, Iowa.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be dispersed to Systems Unlimited.
