Kathryn (Kat) M. Ballou Hansen, age 69 of Cedar Rapids and Parkersburg, Iowa passed away on September 29th, 2025.
Born and raised in Cedar Rapids, she attended Jefferson High School, The University of Northern Iowa, and then earned her LPN degree in order to help care for people.
She resided with her husband, Sidney G. Hansen in Parkersburg, Iowa for 40 years.
Together they raised their son Sidney.
After retiring from nursing and after her husband’s, passing in 2017, she moved back to Cedar Rapids to live and care for her father until his death.
She is survived by her son, Sidney M. (Bobbi) Hansen of Waterloo, IA and brother, Rodney D. Ballou (Dave Oshita) of Honolulu, HI.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Sidney G. Hansen, her parents, Earl O. and Natalie J. Ballou, two daughters and a son by marriage, Chryl Gipson, Michele Hansen, and Degn Hansen.
Kat was a loving and compassionate nurse to her patients.
Kat was close to her brother, Rod, as he was dedicated to her and she felt blessed.
Her many grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her great joy over the years. Kat was an avid animal lover and loved her many dogs greatly.
She was a strong force of love that will forever remain in our hearts.
We would like to thank, as we are sure that Kat would also thank, her friends since childhood, Dorene Stahl and husband Curt, Jeri Burns and husband Bob, and Kathy Penrod.
We would also like to thank the staff of Living Center West for all of their loving care of Kat for the last year and a half, and to the physicians and staff of Mercy Medical Center.
Cedar Memorial will be helping the family to celebrate her life.
Visitation will be on October 6th, 2025, at 10:00 am.
