Washington, Iowa, teen dies in squirrel hunting incident

A Washington, Iowa, teen died this weekend after being shot in the head while squirrel hunting, according to a press release from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Carson Ryan, 17, was hunting squirrels Saturday around 3 p.m. when another member of his hunting party mistook him for a squirrel and shot him in the back of the head, the DNR release states.
He was taken to the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries, according to the release.
“The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, in collaboration with the Washington County Sheriff's Office, responded to the hunting incident in Washington County. The incident is currently under investigation,” the DNR release states.
