Robert “Bob” Matheny, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, September 20th, 2025. Visitation will be from 1-3 PM, Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with interment following.
Bob was born on February 4th, 1935, in Center Point, IA. He was the 15th of 18 children. Bob met his wife, Billie Jean Rubey, at DanceMor Ballroom in 1956. They married a year later on April 28th, 1957, and lived in Cedar Rapids. He loved and adored his family. Bob and Billie loved to dance and play cards. They were happiest hosting family and friends at their backyard pool or basement bar. Bob was a floor mechanic, one of the best in his profession. Due to health issues, he retired in 1981 at the age of 46, which allowed him to spend more precious time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean, parents Abbie Irene and Joseph Matheny, and 17 brothers and sisters, as well as his in-laws, Waunita and Orville Gaddy.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Vickie Irons (Jerry) and Deb Anderson (Rick), four grandchildren, Devin Irons (Falisha), Aaron Irons, Alicia Anderson (Jason Daniels), and Chelsea Anderson, and two great-grandchildren, Mylo and Jakoby Daniels.
We are grateful to have had so many wonderful memories of fun times shared with him. He was a kind, generous, and selfless, husband, dad, grandpa (Bumps), and great-grandpa. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
