IOWA CITY — An Iowa City man was arrested Tuesday on charges that he had multiple videos of child pornography saved in an app on his phone.
Gabriel Kauffman, 22, is charged with five counts of possessing a depiction of a minor in a sex act.
According to a search warrant, Iowa City police started investigating the case in March 2024 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children got a tip from Dropbox Inc. that some videos of child pornography had been uploaded to a Dropbox account.
The email attached to the Dropbox account was under a fake name, but law enforcement was able to track the IP address to a residence in Iowa City. Iowa City police got a search warrant and seized several electronics belonging to Kauffman, including a phone, on which they found the videos, the search warrant states.
Kauffman was arrested Tuesday and had his first appearance in court Wednesday. He was released without bond.
