Steven Allen “Steve” Ruiz, 57, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on September 11, 2025, in his hometown after a recent diagnosis and battle with cancer.
Born on October 6, 1967, in Cedar Rapids, he graduated from Jefferson High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy and trained for a brief time. Steve embarked on a career as a professional truck driver. For over two decades, he drove tractor-trailer semis for various companies; he spent countless miles on the road. Steve was also a school bus driver for the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
Steve had a deep love for music and shared his talent as a trumpet player. He had an ear for melody and rhythm, and loved singing karaoke. Whether playing pool with friends or spending time with family, Steve brought warmth and laughter. He was a loving husband and father and a friend to many.
He is survived by his devoted wife Julie Ruiz; sons Christopher, Mark, Daniel, Tyler, and Bryce; daughters Caitlin and Shelby; parents Jane and Lazaro Ruiz; sister Stephanie (Ruiz) Ironside (Josh); brother Lazaro “JR” Ruiz Jr. (Trisha); granddaughter Elana; mother-in-law Mary Shea; sister-in-law Donna; special aunts and uncles Rosalio Ruiz, Delfino and Maria Ruiz, and Sherri Johnson; cherished nieces and nephews Chris, Jordan, Jonathan, Samantha, Jewel, Joe, Will, Brooke, Libby; great-nephews Daxton, Austin, and Auggie; along with many beloved cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by his son Brandon Ruiz; sister Cindy Ruiz; Uncle Fermin Ruiz; Aunt Donna Nimmo. Father in-law Daniel Shea, grandson Elijah.
A celebration of life event will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025 from 4:30 PM - 7 PM at \Jones Lodge: 2901 Fruitland Blvd, SW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Steve’s memory will live on through the music he loved and the lives he touched. May his legacy bring comfort to those who knew him.
