Dorothy Mae Kehm at the age of 98 was called to her eternal home on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, due to complications of dementia and aggressive melanoma. A private family service will be held at a later date with internment to follow at Linwood Cemetery.
Dorothy was born in Cedar Rapids on April 29, 1927, to Frank and Chloe (Beatty)Sobers. Her stepfather, Harry Milburn, helped raise her. She attended Trinity Lutheran School through the 8th grade and was confirmed in the church in 1941. She graduated from Franklin High School in June 1945 and worked in the general office at Quaker Oats until late 1950.
On May 30, 1948, she was united in marriage to Lynn Bon Kehm. They were blessed with four children, Karen Schuldt of Delaware, Michael (Melissa) of Marion, Douglas (Lori) of Bellevue, NE, and Julie (David) Laylin of Hiawatha. She adored her grandchildren Kyle Schuldt, Andrea Nus, Katheryn Lala, Colin, Clinton, and Chloe Kehm, Andrew and Jordan Hare, stepgrandchildren Greg McCoy, Kendra Abrokwa, and Dylan Laylin, as well as her 13 great-grandchildren, and nieces Linda Holk and Christine Kehm.
Dorothy was devoted all her life to her church, and was a member of numerous guilds and social groups. Her greatest joy was to be with one or more of her family for any reason as well as being active with her circle of church friends while her health allowed it.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lynn in February 2017, her brother and sister-in-law Tom and Jean Kehm, infant grandson Kevin Schuldt, daughter-in-law Patricia Kehm, and son-in-law Lee Schuldt.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care she received while residing at The Promise House (Assisted Living for Memory Care) for almost 9 years, and the Hiawatha Care Center for over a year.
