James “Jim” Robert Berndsen, 68, of Cedar Rapids, died after a short illness on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Harmony Cedar Rapids. A private family service will be held at a later date, with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Teahen Funeral Home is assisting the family.
James is survived by his daughter, Tiffany Bauer of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter, Laura Bauer of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Cathy Swenson of Cedar Rapids and Carol Berndsen of Centerville, OH; and brother, Thomas (Dayna) Berndsen of Cedar Rapids.
James was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jennie Berndsen; and brother-in-law, Carl Swenson.
James was born April 26, 1957, in Oelwein, IA, the son of John and Jennie (Duncan) Berndsen. He was a 1975 graduate of Kennedy High School. He later worked many years in retail, most recently with Von Maur, before retiring in 2024. James enjoyed collecting antique glass and cherished time spent with his family.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Jim’s name.
