Jeff was born on July 2, 1962, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Norman Glaw and Karon (Johnson) Dobbs (formerly Glaw). He was raised in Waterloo and Parkersburg, graduating from the Aplington-Parkersburg High School in 1980. He then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, where he played football and field events (discus), graduating in 1984. His entire life he worked as a wildlife management biologist for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, at various locations but most recently in Keosauqua.
Jeff had a profound passion for the outdoors, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his family, especially watching his grandson play football, fish in tournaments and shoot archery, and watching his granddaughter grow up. Jeff was inducted into the Wartburg College Hall of Fame in 2004, and held the men’s discus record until 2015. He was also a member of the Iowa Wildlife Foundation, and actively participated in various other conservation groups.
