A woman from Muscatine died last week when she fell from a trail at Glacier National Park in Montana.
Diane Bunker, 73, was hiking the Highline Trail with a large group on Aug. 27, when she tripped and fell off the edge of the trail and out of site of her hiking party, according to a news release issued by the National Park Service.
Park staff were alerted to Bunker’s fall at 11 a.m. It occurred between Big Bend and Triple Arches.
The park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road was closed from Logan Pass to Big Bend for about an hour while Two Bear Air was dispatched to search for Bunker. She was found about 450 feet below the trail. She had sustained traumatic injuries from the fall.
An investigation into Bunker’s death is ongoing.
