One visit was all it took. One practice.
Practice? Yeah, we’re talking about practice.
“The energy, the atmosphere ... it was insane,” Clear Creek Amana’s Averie Lower said Monday, announcing her commitment to play women’s basketball at Arizona State University.
“It’s something I’ve never seen before. The energy was through the roof.”
A sharp-shooting 6-foot senior guard, Lower committed Sunday before she left Tempe, and canceled her other two scheduled visits, at Marquette and Missouri.
Lower was a Class 4A first-team all-stater last year, averaging 22.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as the Clippers went 15-8 and reached the 4A regional finals.
She was a key member of CCA’s unbeaten state-championship team in 2024 and has scored 1,236 career points with a season remaining.
“This is a weight lifted off my shoulders,” Lower said. “I’m not really worried about (homesickness). The coaching staff will definitely have my back.
“I’m super excited about this.”
