We are entering a new ‘Gilded Age’

You might recall a book written 20 years ago by Al Gore which described the science behind climate change, aka global warming. Everything he warned us about has come true, how inconvenient! Warmer oceans, heavier rainfalls and flooding, areas of severe drought with accompanying forest fires along with growing hunger around the world. Stronger and more destructive hurricanes, melting glaciers and rising sea levels encroaching on coasts.
Sorry to tell you, but Gore and the scientific community were right. Like the Luddites of England during the early days of the Industrial Revolution, there will always be those who deny the “truth” based on scientific evidence.
“Drill, Baby Drill’, spreading anti-vax misinformation, underfunding medical research and blocking solar and wind projects are just a few of the shortsighted “Luddite” ideas coming from the current administration. Iowa has its own shortsighted ideas like starving public schools which serve ALL children and once were No.1 in the nation in order to fund private schools for wealthy parents.
We are watching the dilution of our democracy with attacks on voting rights, whitewashing of our history (outright racism), the sowing of division, mistrust of our elections and the media, a growing inequality of wealth with tax cuts for the wealthy and tariffs’ higher prices for the rest of us.
We are entering a new Gilded Age with a government operating like it’s the 1920s and ruling like Hitler in the 1930s and that’s the Inconvenient Truth!
