Timothy Todd Becker, 71, passed away peacefully, August 27, 2025, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha after a long struggle with COPD and dementia. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, at Cedar Memorial Park, 4200 1st Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, on Wednesday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery immediately after the service and a luncheon will follow at the church.
Todd was born October 19, 1953, in Cresco, Iowa, the second son of Barney and Betty Becker. At age one, his family moved to Cedar Rapids where Todd lived for the rest of his life. He attended Johnson and Buchanan Grade Schools, McKinley Junior High and Washington High School where he met many lifelong friends. Always a curious and inquisitive learner, and the son of a high school grammar teacher, he spent many hours reading and perfecting his writing skills. These skills served him well as he chased his dreams by graduating from the University of Iowa, Phi Beta Kappa and then Iowa Law School in 1980.
Todd was married to Mary Koehn in 1975. They were blessed with two children, Lisa Ann and Justin Todd. Todd started his legal career in 1980 with the Tom Riley Law Firm in Cedar Rapids. He worked on landmark legal cases and took pride in diligently representing his many clients over the span of his 37-year career.
Todd’s love of history spawned a love of travel. The family enjoyed trips to California, Florida, Hilton Head, and several cruises and European vacations. One highlight was watching the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 2003 Orange Bowl on the Armed Forces Network from a U.S. Air Force Base in Southern France. Todd also enjoyed many annual fall trips to Las Vegas with friends and family to celebrate his birthday. Todd also loved reading, museums, old movies and TV shows, trivia, shuffleboard and spending time with his family. Todd showcased his quick wit and friendly banter with all he knew, and even some strangers. An example being hilarious officewide memos or emails that many will remember to this day. There was also the time that he stumbled and fell at Adventure Land and joked about how mortified he was that the guy on STILTS had to come help him up!! We hope that as you read this, his memory has brought a smile to your face.
Todd is a baptized child of God and is a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Todd is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary, his daughter, Lisa Jones (Will), their children Zachary, Alexis, and Kendall Jones, his son, Justin Becker, brothers-in-law, Dan (Diana) Koehn, and Ross York, sisters -in-law, Betty York, Ty Koehn, his brother’s children, Leigh Ann Wachter (Brady), Erin Sawyer (Ryan), Jay (Beth) Becker and many other nieces and nephews and many longtime friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bob Becker and wife Linda, brothers-in-law, Ken Koehn Rick Koehn, Ed Koehn and sister-in-law, Patsy Koehn.
Todd’s family would like to send a heartfelt Thank-You to Pastor Groth, Pastor Bahn, Pastor Saunders and the staffs of Mercy Hospital and the Oldorf Hospice House for their wonderful and compassionate care.
