Kevin Eugene Hamdorf, 64, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on August 15, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born February 3, 1961, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kevin grew up in Hiawatha and lived his adult life in Cedar Rapids.
Kevin graduated from Kennedy High School and went on to earn multiple degrees from
Kirkwood College. He was a boy scout, a lifelong, active member of St. Andrew Lutheran
Church and he worked at Iowa Electric, MCI and retired from Rockwell Collins. In retirement, Kevin found great joy in giving back to his community by volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital and as treasurer and director for A Promise of Health.
On April 10, 1999, Kevin married Karla (Dennie) Hamdorf, the love of his life, with whom he shared over 26 years of travel, laughs and countless memories. Together, they enjoyed exploring new places, time with friends, and family gatherings.
Kevin loved golfing, bowling, playing games and cards with family, friends and faithfully cheered on the Iowa Hawkeyes, LA Rams, and Chicago Cubs, never missing a chance to support his favorite teams.
He is survived by his wife, Karla; his sisters Darcy (Kevin Pauly) Magee, Traci (Steve) Egly and Karen (Jay) Kreshel; brothers-in-law Gerald (Sandy) Dennie, Terry (Pam) Dennie, and Chad Dennie; brother-in-law David McLaren; his loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and extended relatives, as well as dear friends and neighbors.
Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Roberta Hamdorf; his in-laws, Marvel and Dale Dennie; and his sister-in-law, Sherie McLaren.
A service to celebrate Kevin's life will be held at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 4420 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52402, on Friday, August 22nd at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel Stateroom on Thursday, August 21st from 5 – 7 PM. There will also be visitation from 9:30-10:30 AM, Friday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for later designation.
Kevin will be remembered for his warm heart, his quick wit and laugh, his devotion to family, his love of sports, and his generous spirit.
