The thorny path of politics we are experiencing now will change. We can do two things at the same time; protest the president’s policies and create a vision of what we want in a new government.
All things are impermanent, so when change occurs we need to be ready to create a government that works for all people. The constitution is the framework on which a new governance can be constructed. For me, the phrase … of, by and for the people … refers to elections.
Below are five building blocks for elections and people elected to an office.
1. A commission of residents draw voter districts that cannot be changed for 10 years.
2. No campaign donations. Equal funds are distributed from a U.S. budget line item.
3. Training is required before an oath of office is administered.
4. Term limits of years of service and age.
5. No paid lobbyists. Citizen lobbyists are welcome and encouraged to contribute their ideas.
May we each create a vision of what we want in a new government; fair taxes, laws that apply to all equally, regulations for quality water, air, drugs and food.
