Gail Leonard Golden, born on 10 November 1944, in Kewanee, Illinois, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on 28 July 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was 80 years old.
Gail’s life was marked by a deep appreciation for the simple joys of everyday living. He found happiness in the quiet moments reading a book and cherished the time spent with those closest to him. His wife Carol stood by his side throughout the years, sharing in a life built on love and mutual devotion. Gailand Carol married in Kewanee, Illinois on15 February 1969.
Gail took immense pride in his family. He lived for his wife Carol, his son Scott and daughter-in-law Vicki, whose presence brought him great joy. His grandchildren- Austin, Hunter and Brock- were a constant source of pride and delight. Just in the past short years, Gail’s heart swelled with love for his great-grandchildren Adelyn and Brecken, who brought new light into his life.
Along with his wife Carol, son Scott and daughter-in-law Vicki, their children Austin, Hunter and Brock, great-grandchildren Adelyn and Brecken, left to cherish his memories are his sister Marilyn as well as his extended family and church family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Luvina and his siblings Irene and Dean.
One of Gail’s favorite pastimes was what he fondly called “Day Drives.” These spontaneous outings were more than just trips- they were opportunities to savor the world around him and reflect on life’s blessings. Whether winding through country roads or exploring nearby towns, these drives became a signature part of how he embraced each day.
Gail Leonard Golden will be remembered for the quiet strength with which he lived his life and the deep love he held for his family. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
Services will be held on 20 August 2025 at 5 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church located at 915 27th St., Marion, IA 52302.
