Laura G. Gilmore
Laura G. Gilmore
Cedar Rapids
Laura G. Gilmore, 65, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025 after recently being diagnosed with colon cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Willett and nephew Tony Willett.
The family will host a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 20 from 11 am – 3 pm, at the East Knoll Pavilion in Robins, Iowa.
Laura, also known as “Sis”, was born on December 28, 1959 to Virginia (Dixie) Willett and Ed Willett. She lived in Cedar Rapids and attended Jefferson High School. For several years, she worked as a janitor at Cedar Valley Montessori School and brightened the lives of the staff and students. She loved growing plants and leaves behind an amazing collection there.
Surviving are her mother, Dixie Willett, sisters Robin (Paul) Morris, and Gail “Babe” Martens, her brothers Marty “Butch” (Lisa) Willett and Chad (Jody) Willett; her companion, Mike Farr, a son, Josh Chramosta, a granddaughter, Josie, and many nieces and nephews who were so dear to her heart.
Sis had an awesome sense of humor and brought joy to everyone around her. She loved making crafts for those she loved – a painted rock or piece of wood, a hand-stitched scarf or a framed poem. She loved to fish and kayak, gamble and play bingo. And if you’ve ever seen the decorated Christmas tree on 380 north, that’s her. She started that after 9/11 and has been decorating it every year since, all to bring a smile to someone's face. She’s passed that mantle on to her niece. Sis is so loved and will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
