Mary D. Matthiessen passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness.
Mary was born on August 19, 1937, and became the second child to Charles and Hazel Cash of Anamosa, Iowa. She married Garry Matthiessen on June 6, 1953, and together they raised two sons, Randy and Darin.
Mary was employed for many years at Collins Radio/Rockwell Collins, before retiring in 1994. Post-retirement they relocated to Bull Shoals Lake, Arkansas, and spent every winter at their second home in Mesa, Arizona. Mary enjoyed traveling, camping, and dedicating time and effort to one of her passions, sewing hundreds of quilts to give away to organizations for those with a need. She also was a dedicated fan and supporter of all sports related to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
She was preceded in death by her husband Garry in 2024, her parents, and older brother Joe Cash in 2010.
Survivors are her sons Randy (Joni) and Darin, three granddaughters Kacie, Shelbie, and Shanna, four great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Marie Waggoner.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends on a Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 9-11 am at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa, where a Celebration of Life Ceremony begin at 10:30 am.
