IOWA CITY — A judge sentenced a Coralville man to up to seven years in prison last week for violating a no-contact order 14 times in less than a month, which included him calling the protected person 91 times while in the Johnson County Jail.
Sixth Judicial District Associate Judge Brandon Schrock sentenced Nathan Riley Fisher, 26, of Coralville, to 180 days in jail for each of the 14 contempt charges and ran them consecutively for a total of seven years in prison. The violations of the no-contact order happened between May 15 and July 6.
Fisher still has pending charges of domestic abuse assault of a pregnant person — strangulation, domestic abuse assault — strangulation with bodily injury, and domestic abuse assault — third or subsequent offense, all Class D felonies.
According to a criminal complaint, Fisher assaulted and strangled a pregnant woman March 29 in her home. The woman said Fisher pushed her to the ground, strangled her and struck her multiple times. The woman had cuts, bruises and scratches, as well as swollen knees. A neighbor witnessed the assault and also identified Fisher, whom police found nearby.
The woman who was assaulted in March also was the protected person in the no-contact order, which Fisher repeatedly violated.
When Fisher was arrested in that March assault, he was already serving two years’ probation from an incident in 2024 with the same woman. He also was found guilty of violating a no-contact order twice in that case.
Fisher faces a felony charge in a separate case for a sex offender registration violation — second offense, in addition to a charge of driving while revoked.
