IOWA CITY — Gabe Arnold remains an Iowa wrestler.
The 184-pound NCAA qualifier was the subject of reports that he was dismissed in July, however, Arnold is a member of the Hawkeyes’ men’s wrestling program.
According to Iowa officials in an email to The Gazette, Arnold was “never officially removed from the roster.” Arnold was 19-7 last season, finishing fifth at the Big Ten Championships in March. He has three seasons of eligibility left.
Arnold was an 8-1 in his redshirt season during the 2023-24 season. He was a state champion for Iowa City High and was a two-time National Prep champion for Wyoming (Pa.) Seminary before becoming a Little Hawk. Arnold also won the 79-kilogram title at the 2023 U.S. Open and was a 2023 World Team Trials runner-up in men’s freestyle, according to his bio still listed on the Iowa website.
Arnold contributes to the depth of talent in the upper weights, which includes All-Americans Michael Caliendo (165), Patrick Kennedy (174) and Angelo Ferrari, who was 11-1 as a redshirt 184-pounder last season. His lone loss was a 3-1 decision to Penn State five-time NCAA champion Carter Starocci. Ferrari was the top-ranked pound-for-pound recruit in the Class of 2024 by Flowrestling and MatScouts.
Iowa’s official 2025-26 schedule has not been released, yet, but will likely begin in November.
The Hawkeyes will host the University of Michigan, University of Minnesota, Penn State and Wisconsin at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa will compete in road duals at Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State and Purdue.
