William Eric Baker, 50, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 7:30 am, at the Hospice House of Mercy. Eric lost a hard fought, aggressive battle with stage 4 colon cancer after receiving brain surgery to remove a tumor in January. Eric was relentless and fought all the way up to his last breath.
Visitation services were held Sunday, August 3 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 3-6 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 4 at New Covenant Bible Church at 11 am, burial to follow immediately after service. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at New Covenant Bible Church following the burial.
Eric was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on August 2, 1974. Eric was raised by Everett and Wanda Baker (Sweeney). He attended Jefferson Highschool, where he was a 2x Iowa High School wrestling state place winner. After high school, Eric then went on to Coe college, where he earned an associate degree and later attended Kirkwood, where he also earned an associate degree in industrial maintenance. Eric worked for Rockwell Collins for 6 years and then moved on to work at General Mills for 24 years. Eric was the most hardworking man and dedicated most of his time to work to support his family and make sure they had everything they could ever want. Eric enjoyed traveling the country to various wrestling tournaments with his son, Brenden, as well as numerous volleyball tournaments with his beloved daughter Kyleigh. Eric also enjoyed going deer hunting with his friends, which he referred to as "Hunting Party". Eric was a man that put his family above all else while having a soft spot for his dogs Mia, Sadie, and his baby girl Kali. Eric was also ecstatic to become a grandpa. Eric was a man of few words who let his actions speak louder than words.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Jodie; his parents Everett and Wanda Baker of Cedar Rapids; his sister Cheryl (Travis) Mastin; his kids Brenden, Kyleigh, and Ashton; his nephews Dalton, Colten, Kaden; and his favorite niece Lexi Jo.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ma Bake, Pa Bake; and Ma Jean, Pa George.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
