Kristin “Kris” Whitehead, 73, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2025. She was born in Cedar Rapids to Robert and Janice Hallquist and grew up alongside her brother, Larry.
She graduated from City High in 1970 and went on to become a licensed practical nurse in 1972, later devoting herself to her greatest joy - being a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She met the love of her life, Michael Whitehead, at the county fair in 1968, and they married on May 13, 1972. Together they built a family rooted in love and laughter.
Kris’ warm spirit and nurturing heart were evident in all facets of her life. She found immense fulfillment in caring for her family, always putting their needs above her own. Her legacy lives on through her husband, Michael “Mike”; daughters, Denise Hale and Carissa “Cari” Kaut (Tom); her grandchildren Bradley “Brad” Havel (Brittany), Ryan Havel, Katelyn “Katie” Havel and Kelsey Kaut as well as her great-grandson, Bodhi Havel. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother. Kris has now joyfully reunited with her cherished pets who have been patiently awaiting her arrival in the fields of Heaven.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Friends of the Animal Center Foundation.
