They were high school sweethearts and married on January 24, 1970 at Saint Joseph Catholic church in Marion.
Ed was born on January 17, 1949 in Cedar Rapids to John Urbanek and Rita Urbanek. He graduated from Regis High School and the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in business administration. He worked in various management positions in the retail industry. He later became a commercial real estate broker. Ed was predeceased by his parents.
Judi was bom December 1, 1949 to Harold and Arlene Gray Dicus in Webster City. The family moved to Marion when she was 6. She graduated from Marion High School and completed the legal secretary program at Kirkwood. She held positions in legal offices, telecommunications, school administration and mortgage banking. Judi was predeceased by her parents, brothers-in-law Larry Schafbuch and John Taylor and oldest sister, Marilyn Schafbuch.
They are survived by daughter Lisa McManis (James), son Tom Urbanek (Sara), granddaughters Courtney and Emily Urbanek. Also surviving are Ed's sister, Christine Thompson (Rod), Judi's sisters Carol Gugler (Don) and Beverly Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.
Ed and Judi moved several times as Ed's career progressed, starting in Arizona, then moving to
Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Upon retirement they split their time between Colorado Springs, CO and North Fort Myers, FL. Hawaii was a favorite travel destination and they made many trips there.
Ed loved to golf, fish, take road trips in Scooter, their Miata convertible, and enjoyed a good cigar. Judi was a decorator, always making their home warm and inviting with her quilt and cross stitch projects. Time shopping for quilt fabric and supplies was always on her list of favorite things.
They are deeply loved and missed by their many family members and friends.
