Darwin Earl Betzer, 77, of Wyoming, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
Born on April 30, 1948, in Iowa to Elza “Earl” and Delberta (Sutton) Betzer. Darwin was a proud graduate of Midland High School. On September 17, 1976, he was united in marriage to Connie Petersen in Wyoming, Iowa. Together, they shared a beautiful life in the log cabin Darwin built with his own hands—a home filled with love, laughter, and memories.
Darwin dedicated many years of service as a technician for the Wyoming Mutual Telephone Company. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and remained active in his community as a member of the Wyoming American Legion Post #259.
He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—gardening, fishing, socializing with friends, and spending cherished time with his family. His warm smile, steady presence, and strong work ethic will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Left to honor his memory are his loving wife, Connie; daughter DeShawn (Richard) Schmidt of DeWitt; granddaughter Chelsea (Larry) Ehlers of Lost Nation; sister Joyce (Jim) Smith of Knoxville, Iowa; a sister-in-law Kathy Close of Springville, nieces and nephews Kevin (Monique) Smith, Kris (Jeff) Morse, Kimberlee (Mike) Pafford, Kelly Smith, Heath (Shelly) Close, Bryon Close, Paula Petersen and Wayne Petersen; and several great-nieces and -nephews; and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law Barb Petersen and three brothers-in-law Richard Close, Robert Petersen Jr. and Steve Petersen.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, August 1, 2025 at Dawson Funeral Services in Wyoming, Iowa. A private graveside service will be held at a later date with military honors at the Wyoming Cemetery.
Darwin’s legacy of service, kindness, and devotion to family will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
