MARSHALLTOWN — A Cedar Rapids man was arrested Friday morning and charged with willful injury resulting in serious injury after an alleged stabbing on North 10th Avenue.
At 4:48 a.m., the Marshalltown Fire Department and UnityPoint Health were called to the scene on North 10th Avenue to assist an individual who was injured in an altercation. When it became apparent that the injuries sustained were life threatening, the Marshalltown Police Department also was called upon to respond, according to a news release issued Friday by MPD.
The victim was suffering from stab and slash wounds, and the suspect had fled the scene on foot. The victim was transported by ambulance to UnityPoint ER in Marshalltown and then transferred to a hospital in Des Moines for treatment, but was in stable condition, according to the release.
At 7:04 a.m., Marshall County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the suspect, 33-year-old Duckenson Augustin of Cedar Rapids, at the North Third Avenue Casey’s and took him into custody. Augustin was charged with willful injury resulting in serious injury, a Class C felony. He is being held without bond in the Marshall County Jail.
“The investigation showed this was an incident between parties that knew each other and there was no danger to the public at large,” the release states.
