A Madrid, Iowa, man was arrested Wednesday in Johnson County on 53 counts of possessing a depiction of a minor in a sex act after a police search warrant revealed 53 pictures and videos saved to his phone, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint for Justin Farrell, 22, lists his current address in Madrid, but the search warrant that led to the discovery of the images on his phone was conducted at an address in Iowa City in January 2023.
All of the children featured in the images were prepubescent, and some were toddlers, the complaint states.
In March of 2025, more than two years after the initial search warrant, an arrest warrant was filed for Farrell. He was arrested on Wednesday and had his first appearance in court Thursday morning. He is being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $106,000 bond.
