Gary Dale Guffey, 76, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Glendale, Arizona.
Gary was born on August 22, 1948, in Franklin, North Carolina, to Fred and Verna (Shepherd) Guffey. He graduated from Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia, North Carolina, and Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. He proudly served as a communications specialist for over 26 years in the United States Air Force. He was united in marriage to Moira McKenna on December 18, 1971, in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England.
He adored his beloved fur baby, Mary Jane, and cherished every moment he could spend with his family whenever they gathered. A true tech enthusiast, he had a deep passion for computers, so much so that he built a custom computer for each of his grandchildren. He was also an avid sci-fi reader. Hands-on and creative, he loved building and working on construction projects. Alongside Moira, they traveled the world during their time in the Air Force and kept the adventure alive well into retirement, embarking on countless cruises together.
Survivors include his wife, Moira; children, Richard (Paulette), Heather, and Helen; grandchildren, Stephanie-Rae, Kyra, Liam, Joaquin, Mark, Stephanie, and Paul; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Sue.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jimmy and Kenneth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association in Gary’s honor.
