George R. Wood, 90, of Anamosa, Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Anamosa Care Center, Anamosa, Iowa.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at The Avacentre in Anamosa (23486 County Road E34, Anamosa, IA 52205). There will be lunch served at 12:30 p.m. where visitors can continue sharing memories and stories. A private family burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa.
George was born on April 18, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Ivan and Edna (Wright) Wood. He graduated from Springville High School in 1953 and soon after married Mary “Dorothy” Eden on October 2, 1953, in Anamosa. Together they spent over 70 years enjoying family, friends, playing cards, camping in Guttenberg and many cruises they had the opportunity to share once retired. George was a chief inspector at Jones County Engineering Department for 33 years, retiring in 1994.
Survivors include his children: Sandra (Danny) Brewer of Monticello, Bradley Wood of Denver, Colo.; brother: Jerry (Shirley) Wood; in-laws: Richard (Eileen) Eden; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Dorothy on June 11, 2025, one son, Michael Wood in 1972, grandson, Shaun Brewer in 2021; and a sister, Rose Stone.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in George’s honor.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Anamosa Care Center and Above & Beyond Hospice for their love, care, and support during George’s stay.
