The Marion Big Band is back for their 29th season playing classic music from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
Concerts in Marion’s Uptown City Park will be on Thursday evenings, July 10, 17 and 24 starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Please bring your own lawn chair or blanket. There will be no rain dates.
The Marion Big Band will also play free, outdoor concerts at the following locations. These performances are also open to the public. Please bring your own lawn chair or blanket.
- Sunday, July 13 at 2 p.m., South Troy Park, 700 S. Troy Rd., Robins
- Tuesday, July 15 at 6 p.m., Terrace Glen Village, 3400 Alburnett Rd., Marion
- Sunday, July 20 at 2 p.m., Faith Lutheran Church, 155 Boyson Rd., Marion
Marion Big Band concerts feature music made famous by mid-century artists such as Glen Miller, Artie Shaw, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael and more.
The Marion Big Band was organized in 1996 by Jack Hicks and Bob Sternowski. The personnel of the band is a talented group of locals who volunteer their time to rehearse and perform these summer concerts, plus a few charity events annually. Most of the members are veterans of high school, college and/or military jazz bands, and appreciate having a group to play music with as adults.
