Richard “Skip” Johnson, Sr., 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to his eternal home on Saturday, July 5, 2025. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Skip was born on July 14, 1934, in Kirksville, Missouri, to Gerald and Marian (Akers) Johnson. After graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. On May 12, 1962, he married Janet Lee Bundy in Preston, Minnesota. Skip worked as a supervisor for the United States Postal Service until retiring in 1992. He was a member of Marion Church of Christ, where he preached and served as minister for 45 years and remained active in the congregation. Skip enjoyed gardening, golfing, teaching the Word of God, and listening to oldies - especially blues, jazz, and Motown. He was well-dressed and took pride in looking sharp.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Jan Johnson; children, Richard “Hopper” Floyd Johnson, Jr., Tracy (Mike) Jones, and Lewis (Josephine) Craven; grandchildren, Candace (Micha) Mims, Jared Johnson, Maurice Higgins, Traleena Higgins, and Gwyn Craven; great-grandchildren, Antwon, Devonte, Johnothan, Maci; and loving cousin, Ramona “Mona” Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Johnson; stepson, Anthony “Tony” Kennedy; sister, Barbara Elam; and stepfather, LeRoy Moody.
