Brian Dale Kiburz, 67, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family. The family will greet friends from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Brian was born on September 13, 1957, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Janet (Dale) Kiburz. He was a graduate of Marion High School and went on to work as a carpenter for the Carpenters Local 308, until his retirement in 2013. He most recently worked for Weland Clinical Laboratories and volunteered at Gardner Golf Course. On September 26, 1986, Brian was united in marriage to Catherine Marie Grulkey in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Together they had three children. Brian loved to travel and go golfing, but most of all, enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Brian is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Catherine Kiburz of Marion; children, Niki Kiburz of Bakersfield, California, Alec (Courtney) Kiburz of Cedar Rapids, and Sam Kiburz (partner, Christian Francois) of Cedar Rapids; brother, Brad Kiburz of Urbandale, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bob (Lisa) Grulkey of Cedar Rapids; and a host of extended family members including aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ken and Janet Kiburz and sister, Berneé Gonderman.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Brian’s memory.
