Christie (Chris) Lynn Gilchrist, 69, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away peacefully on June 30 at Mercy Hospice House in Hiawatha, IA after her battle with cancer. Born on February 17, 1956 in Warner Robins, GA, Chris was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Chris is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years, Robert (Tom) Gilchrist; her children, Joy (Matt) Campbell and Eric (Rebecca) Gilchrist; and her cherished grandchildren, Briana (Brie) and Jacob Campbell. She was the oldest of 5 siblings. Chris was preceded in death by her father, Charles (Chuck) Olive.
Chris was a Human Resources coordinator and retired in August 2023 from Whirlpool. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren, playing slots at casinos with Tom, and visiting flea markets. Chris had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening flowers and plants, as well as taking care of her beloved dogs over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17 at Wanatee Parks Red Cedar Lodge from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. to honor her memory. Chris will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
