Phyllis A. Nelson, 98, of 720 Oakbrook Drive, Marion, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 22, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a brief illness. A private family service is planned for 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 2 in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial to follow in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebration of life will be arranged at a later date.
Surviving to honor her memory are sons Steven and wife Linda of Arcadia, MI, Jeffrey and wife Kathy of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren Nicolas and wife Kate, Christopher and wife Amber, Jennifer and Erik, and great-grandson Ethan. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Wallace, her parents, a brother, Richard and sister, Patricia.
Phyllis was born September 30,1926 in Cedar Rapids to Claude and Madeline Schnoebelen. She married Wallace Nelson on August 23, 1947, in Cedar
Rapids. After dedicating herself to home and family Phyllis worked for many years at Vigortone Ag Products in Cedar Rapids. Upon retirement she took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren. Phyllis was an avid bowler, participating in several leagues. She enjoyed travel and reluctantly served as navigator on family vacations. Her pastimes included tending her flower garden, watching pro golf and NASCAR races, attending concerts of her favorite country western music stars, and following the Iowa State Cyclones.
In honor of her loving dedication to caring for Wallace during his years of battling Alzheimer’s, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
