Tristan Joseph Metzler, 16, of Shueyville and formerly of Solon, passed away on June 21, 2025 at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital after a long illness, in the arms of his Mom and Dad.
Visitation will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025 at the Solon United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Doug Peters officiating.
Tristan was born in Cedar Rapids on June 13, 2009. At three months old, he joined his forever family and was later adopted by Daniel and Lisa (Hanes) Metzler. Tristan attended Prairie High School and just completed the 9th grade this spring.
Tristan had a love for music and enjoyed watching movies and musicals. He loved colorful light shows in the dark, both at home and at school. He had an infectious smile and laugh, and he loved being with his family and friends.
He participated in Special Olympics, Best Buddies, Miracle League and attended Camp Courageous.
Despite his life full of challenges, he faced each day with courage. His positive attitude, his strength and his bravery were his superpowers. He loved unconditionally and was a light to everyone who met him.
Tristan is survived by his loving and devoted parents, Daniel and Lisa Metzler; siblings: Ashley (Chris) Maiers, Zach (Autum) Metzler, Jacob (Jena) Metzler and Armando Metzler (his brother, long time roommate and best friend); niece and nephews: Ilsa and Micah Maiers and Magnus Metzler; maternal and paternal grandmothers: Mitzi Hanes-Pratt and Anne Metzler; and his birth family.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandfathers: Robert Hanes, Rev. John Metzler and Rulon Pratt and his Nana Jeni.
