Mark Ramsey
Iowa City
Mark Ramsey passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on May 23, 1937 in Manilla, Iowa, to Mildred and Ralph (Jake) Ramsey, he was the second eldest of four siblings. After graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in Wyoming, California, and Montana. He then attended the University of Iowa, obtaining a degree in geography. Mark worked at the University of Iowa's Weeg Computer Center for his entire career. He married Carole Turner in 1966 in Iowa City and together they raised two children. Mark enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling through the United States and Europe (especially in his retirement years), gardening, following politics, and researching baseball history.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Ramsey; children, Mark Ramsey and Elizabeth Tran, son-in-law Luyen Tran; grandchildren, Ethan Tran and Sofia Tran; sisters, JoAnn Gresso and Teri Miller; and sister-in-law, Jayne Ramsey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Jake Ramsey; and his brother, Tom Ramsey.
The family wishes to thank the Oaknoll community, specifically the health care providers in Oaknoll's Health Center, as well as Iowa City Hospice. Mark opted to participate in the University of Iowa's deeded body program, so there will be no funeral services at this time. Mark's kindness, compassion, and decency will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
