Norman Neal, 90, of Swisher, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at home doing what he loved. Celebration of Life gathering will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, where full military rites will be conducted.
Norman was born on July 17, 1934, in Vinton, the son of Raymond and Inez (Vandee) Neal. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Franklin High School. Norman Joined the U.S. Naval Reserves in 1952, where he trained for eight years. Norman then married the love of his life, Doris M. Strong, on April 28, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. Norman owned and operated Neal’s Carpet Service for over thirty years. He was also a member of the Swisher American Legion #671, the Swishers Men’s Club, and was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Swisher Fire Department for twenty-five years. Every year Norman looked forward to his favorite tradition, his annual Canada fishing trip. Norman liked to spend his time fishing, deer hunting, being with family and traveling with his wife Doris.
Norman Is survived by his son Steve (Rose) Neal; daughter Karen McVeigh; five grandchildren, Leslie Strickler, Kathy Arndorfer, Amber Yates, Kimberly Dant, and Duncan Yates; four great-grandchildren Janelle, Bridget, Natalie and Coraline; his sister-in-law Evelyn Neal; as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of fifty-five years, Doris Neal; his daughter Janice Strickler; son Rick Neal; brothers John (Alberta) Neal and William Neal; and his sisters Margaret (Leo) Fisher, Clara (Willard) Vokt, Mabel Long, and Mary “Madeline” (Keith) Bell.
Memorials may be directed to the Swisher American Legion in his name or to the family.
