One person was killed in a shooting at a mobile home park in Coralville Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Coralville Police Department.
Police were called to Western Hills Mobile Estates at 11:54 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a disturbance. While police were on their way to the scene, dispatchers informed them the disturbance had escalated to a shooting, according to the release.
Officers found a male victim who had been shot twice in the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his next of kin.
The release does not state whether an arrest has been made, but does say investigators don’t believe there is an immediate threat to the public because the incident was isolated. Anyone with information about the shooting or who was in the area at the time has been asked to call the Coralville Police Department at 319-248-1800.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is helping with the investigation. Other agencies that helped in the response include the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communications Center, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Johnson County Attorney’s Office, the Johnson County Medical Examiner, the Iowa City Police Department and the Johnson County Ambulance Service.
