George “Butch” Hubert Slocum, 81, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Marion. Butch’s eulogy will be read at 4:00 p.m.
Butch was born on December 4, 1943, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Dale and Emma (Stangl) Slocum. He graduated from Jefferson High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. In April 1991, he met and fell in love with his partner, Mary Lynn Montour, in Marion, Iowa. He retired in 2012 after working at Alside Window Company in Cedar Rapids.
As a proud member of Cedar Valley Street Rods, he cherished his street cars and valued the moments shared with family and friends. At the impressive age of 81, he recently took up playing pool.
Survivors include his daughter, Rochelle Slocum; significant other, Lynn Montour, and her daughter, Michelle Montour; siblings, Carl (Connie) Slocum and Kathleen Harger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joanne Blazek, and brothers, Mike and Nick Slocum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or the donor’s choice in Butch’s honor.
