James Hugh Johnston, 90, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital. A private family burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
James was born on December 9, 1934, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of James and Gertrude (Pritchard) Johnston. Growing up, James was proud to be an Eagle Scout. He honorably served in the United States Navy. James was united in marriage to Nancy Siders on May 2, 1959, in Marion, Iowa. He was a draftsman by trade and was Director of Design and Construction for Bishops Buffets from 1968 to 1987. James was a member of the American Legion Post 298 of Marion. His hobbies were genealogy and Civil War history.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Nancy of Marion, Iowa; two children, Laura (Mark) Hoffman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and J. Daniel Johnston of Lenexa, Kansas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert (Maryann) Johnston of Richardson, Texas; nephews, nieces, and extended family members.
James was preceded by his parents, a daughter, Jeanne, and sister, Maryanna Davis.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Marion Methodist Church.
