Richard B. Yates, 93, of Cedar Rapids formerly Palo, died Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Hiawatha Care Center. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation are caring for Richard and his family.
Richard is survived by his son, Douglas (Debra) Yates of Palo; daughter, Connie (Allen) Stueck of Atkins; grandchildren, Brianna (Preston) Cannady of Queen Creek, AZ, Danielle (Brian) Balvin of Chelsea, Brent (Jessa) Stueck of Hiawatha, and Matthew (Brooke) Yates of Palo; and great-grandchildren, Graham, Gia, Kaylee, Henry, Teagan, Terran, and Tate.
Richard was born on October 24, 1931, the son of Ben and Ethlyn Paterson Yates in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Palo High School in 1949. Richard married Marie Ann Studt on March 3, 1957 in Cedar Rapids. He served in the United States Army and was a lifelong farmer before retiring in 1986. He liked all kinds of tractors, was a member of Palo American Legion and also a Past Master Mason.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Marie Ann; parents, Ben and Ethlyn; and sisters, Lois (Bob) Little and Annabelle (Keith) Ochletree.
Richard’s family would like to extend their thanks to the Hiawatha Care Center and Suncrest Hospice for their excellent care.
