Douglas M. Johnson, 85, of Solon, Iowa, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Radiant Church in Cedar Rapids, with an informal visitation to begin one hour prior. A private family burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family.
Doug was born January 13, 1940, in Jackson, Minnesota, the son of Glenn and Virginia (Miller) Johnson. He graduated from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Doug served his country honorably in the United States Navy during Vietnam. On July 17, 1966, Doug was united in marriage to Marilyn Vaughn in Green Mountain, Iowa. He worked at Rockwell Collins and retired in 1997. Doug was a member of Radiant Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, mission trips, church activities, and traveling to many countries.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Johnson of Solon; children, Jeff (Kim) Johnson of Robins, Iowa and Carrie (Scott) Langridge of Center Point, Iowa; grandchildren, Tyler and Alex Johnson and Lauren and Catherine Langridge; sister, Melinda (Kent) Huebner; one niece; and three nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Pam Castner; dog, Smokey; and cat, Murphy.
Memorials may be directed to Samaritan’s Purse and the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
