A Nebraska man is dead after a single-vehicle crash Tuesday just north of Fairfax, according to a news release from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
William Leroy Tomson, 70, of La Vista, Nebraska, was the driver of and only occupant in a vehicle that law enforcement found upside down in a ditch Tuesday when they responded to reports of a crash at about 3:45 p.m.
He had been driving south on 80th Street when he left the roadway and his car flipped onto its top in the west ditch near the intersection of 80th Street and Beverly Road.
Tomson was thrown from the vehicle in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s office announced Wednesday afternoon that further investigation into the crash identified another driver who was passing Tomson’s vehicle when it entered the ditch and lost control. The vehicle was located and the driver was interviewed, a news release states.
No evidence was found to indicate the two vehicles made contact, but the sheriff’s office said the case “remains under investigation for possible criminal charges.”
Traffic was stopped on 80th Street between Beverly Road and Highway 30 for a few hours Tuesday afternoon while the sheriff’s office investigated the crash. Along with the sheriff’s office, Fairfax Fire and Area Ambulance also responded to the scene.
