David Hoppe
Omaha, NE
David Hoppe, 73, was born in Anamosa, Iowa on March 12, 1952, to Walter and Mary Ellen Walker Hoppe. He died in Omaha, Nebraska on April 25, 2025. The youngest of “The Hoppe kids”, he grew up on a small farm on the west side of Muskrat Slough. He attended school in Morley through the 5th grade and then graduated from Olin High School in 1970. David went on to graduate from Upper Iowa University in 1974 with three majors and two minors. He taught high school for a few years. He then became a licensed counselor and finished his graduate degree from The University of Oklahoma in Human Relations.
He spent his last 32 years as a college professor at Metro Community College, Dana College and, for the last fifteen years, at Bellevue University where he was an Associate Professor of Human Service and a Program Director.
David had many titles in his life including college cross country coach, Director of Summer Programs, Associate Director of Student Life, Clinical Director of a half-way house for chemically dependent teens and supervisor of a home-based counseling program. However, his most cherished titles were husband, father and grandpa.
He is survived by his wife Teri, his daughter Jessica, her husband Andrew Fisher, and his son Jason David. He is also survived by the brightest lights of his life, his grandchildren Colbie, Madden, Beckham and Easton David. In addition, his bonus granddaughter, Laura Fisher, and his two sisters Nancy Kintz of Bettendorf, Iowa and Marilyn Whitaker of Eldridge, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clayton Hoppe.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:00pm on Friday, May 23, at Bellevue University (Administrative Services Building). Immediately following the service there will be time for visitation and fellowship.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Pius X / St. Leo School to help students prepare for high school entrance exams.
